Data protection and the law

Map of the EU and a data padlock depicting the General Data Protection Regulation

The law on data protection is called GDPR - the General Data Protection Regulation. It came into force on 25 May 2018. We have created this part of our website to tell you how me meet the rules under this law.

Why is GMPF allowed to use my data?

Under data protection law, we can only use your personal data if we meet one of the conditions spelled out. There are six possible conditions, and the one applying to us is that we have legal obligation to do so.

The rules of our scheme are passed by Parliament, and we have a legal obligation to follow those rules, when carrying out everything involved in running the scheme, such as working out and paying correct pension benefits. We couldn’t do these things without holding and processing data about you.
